So in this article, I am going to show you three amazing ways that you can use to quickly and easily find trending videos in your niche to stay ahead in the game, go viral and grow your YouTube channel fast.

So, some of the methods that I am going to show you will require using a powerful YouTube SEO tool called VidIQ.

If you don’t know what VidIQ is and how it works, you should definitely check our in-depth VidIQ Review.

You’ll definitely need at least the VidIQ Pro plan ($7.50/month plan) for the second method and VidIQ Boost plan ($39/month plan) for the other methods that I am going to show you.

1st Method to Find Trending Videos

This is a manual method and does not require using any tool but is less accurate than the second method. The method leverages YouTube’s filter tool which is available search section.

So to get started, go to your YouTube dashboard

1: Enter your topic/keyword in the search box (fishing in my own case) and click enter

finding trending videos on YouTube

2. Click on “filter” tab and a box will be displayed

YouTube filter tab

3. Under upload date, select “this week” (can also select today)

4. Under sort by, select “view count”

This will show you the videos that are getting the most views in this week.

This will display a list of the most viewed videos as shown in the image below.

2nd Method to Find Trending Videos

This method is similar to above method, but it requires using VidIQ extension which provides even more data and more options than the manual method.

So, we’re going to leverage VidIQ’s “most Viewed” section which is available on the left side of the YouTube home screen.

NB: make sure you are logged in to your VidIQ account and have at least the Pro plan ($7.50/month) to access this feature.

1.Click on the “most viewed” tab (found in the left section of the screen).

And you’ll see a pop up window displaying the most viewed videos on all of YouTube.

2. Enter your topic/keyword (fishing in my own case) in the search field and press enter.

3. Then sort by “views per hour” and select “past 7 days”

This will show you the videos that are currently trending and the amount of views they are getting per hour (VPH)

NB: Make sure no country is selected in the country tab (displayed at the right side of the screen) unless your channel is targeting a specific country.

3rd Method to Find Trending Videos

1. Visit VidIQ website and login to your dashboard

2. Select the VidIQ keyword research tool

3. Enter your topic/keyword in the search field and press enter

4. You will see a list of trending videos by the right side of the screen

4th Method to Find Trending Videos

This is the final method of finding trending videos on YouTube that we are going to cover in this tutorial.

You’ll need at least the VidIQ Boost plan ($39/month) for this method. This method requires choosing a very popular video (like you want to watch the video) in your niche that is getting/got a lot of views.

So let’s get into the method:

1. Search for a video that is related to your topic/keyword

2. Click on the video

3. Click on the VidIQ interface by the right side of he screen.

4. Click on trending tab and you’ll see a list of trending videos that are related to the video.

How to Take Advantage of the Trend to Grow your YouTube Channel

After you find videos that are rending in your niche, your goal is to create similar videos that have high click through rate (CTR) and high audience retention and make them show in the suggested section of the trending videos.

So how do you get your videos to show in the suggested section of a particular video?

You need to optimize your video tags and title to be similar to that of the video you want to be suggested on.

YouTube usually hide video tags but VidIQ will let you see the tags for any video.

So to find video tags, click on the video and scroll down just below the trending section and you will see “channel video tags”.

Then click on the download button at the top right hand corner of the tags section and export to “csv”.

When uploading your video, use title that is similar and contains the keyword that the trending video is ranking for and use some of the tags that the video is using.

NB: You will see a VidIQ tab showing you the video that you will be suggested on.

Conclusion

Now that you have found trending videos in your niche, go ahead and create similar videos that have high click through rate and high audience retention and get your videos to show in the suggested section of the trending videos.
